January Week #4

It’s been pretty busy around here and as January rolled to an end tax season starts up, ugh!!!! We didn’t make the targeted cost for the food budget this month, nor did we do 100% farm stores do to the family (I explained last week) but it’s much better than previous years so to me it’s a win. I will tweaking the next few month so that at the end of the year our monthly food budget will come in around $200. I also picked up two ready to heat up dishes at Costco last week to try to make a night or two easier on me. We did end up eating both and I was less than impressed at the amount of food and the taste. Maybe I am just picky because home cooking is so much better tasting as well and healthier for you, but these days I need a break. After cooking every meal and most all Holiday’s for the last 28 years I just want someone to cook for me for a change. Hence our new Friday date nights which is in a totally different budget category then house hold foods.

What I (or family) spent on food for week #4?

Costco – $32.96, Harris Teeter – $26.97, Harris Teeter – $37.82

Total’s: $97.75

Harris Teeter $26.97
  • Week #1 = $30.89
  • Week #2 = $156.97
  • Week #3 = $154.71
  • Week #4 = $97.75

Total spent this month = $440.32

Here are a few meals I made last week:

  1. Braised crock pot ribs
  2. General Tso chicken (Costco 1st time trying: would not recommend)
  3. Pizza
  4. Meat sauce and spaghetti squash
  5. Cilantro Lime Chicken (Costco 1st time trying: would not recommend either)
  6. Chicken pot pie (https://www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/cast-iron-skillet-chicken-pot-pie-with-a-biscuit-crust/)

This last month I am chalking it up to a big learning curve. We still have tons in the freezer and lots more from some of hubby’s runs to the store. I am hoping next month for February we can come in at only $160 to help balance things out. I am still working towards more Farm & Farm Store purchases and less regular stores but life is a balance with a family.

How did you all do with your January food budget? Can you improve?
